Women who either lack of eggs or have poor quality eggs are potential candidates for using eggs from an egg donor. These women (called the “recipient”) may have had their ovaries removed or may be older and/or have poor quality/quantity eggs. A known or anonymous egg donor is stimulated with injectable fertility medications, undergoes an egg retrieval, has her eggs fertilized with sperm from either the recipient’s partner or a sperm donor, and the resulting embryo(s) is/are transferred to the recipient’s uterus.
Women who either lack a uterus or have an abnormal uterus that may not sufficiently sustain a pregnancy are potential candidates for using a gestational carrier. We collect our patient’s eggs after stimulating them with injectable fertility drugs, fertilize the eggs with partner/donor sperm in the lab to create embryos, and then transfer the embryos into a “hormonally-prepared” gestational carrier’s uterus.
